As senior economics correspondent, Oscar covers policies, programs and businesses that seek to address historical disparities in access to jobs, capital and space for economic use in cities. He previously served as Next City’s editor from 2018-2019, and was a Next City Equitable Cities Fellow from 2015-2016.
Since 2011, Oscar has covered stories on topics such as community development finance, community banking, community land trusts, impact investing, equitable and inclusive economies, affordable housing, inclusionary zoning, fair housing, segregation, gentrification, the social safety net and more. He has also previously spoken at gatherings such as SOCAP, the Grounded Solutions Network National Conference, and the Transform Finance Institute for Social Justice Leaders. Oscar has also guest lectured or presented at the CUNY Graduate Center's Urban Studies Program, the Pratt Institute, the University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Georgetown University’s Professional Communications Program, and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
Oscar is available to speak on any of the topics he has covered, as well as diversity or representation in the media.
Tony has designed books and other projects for clients such as Thames and Hudson, Powerhouse, Steve Powers, the Pew Foundation, Deloitte and Federal Express. In 2005, he and Dan Murphy founded the experimental media project Megawords and were awarded the Pew Fellowship in the Arts in 2012.
