Join us this Thursday, July 11 for a discussion about how power is shifting from state and federal governments to cities and metropolitan regions, and what this means for the way local leaders deal with changing environmental, political, economic and fiscal problems.

Next City Executive Director Diana Lind will moderate the free panel discussion, which will take place at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia from 5:30pm-7:30pm. The panel will consist of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Jennifer Bradley and Bruce Katz of the Brookings Institution, and Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics. Don Hinkle-Brown, president and CEO of The Reinvestment Fund, will give an introduction.

Katz and Bradley are the co-authors of The Metropolitan Revolution: How Cities and Metros are Fixing our Broken Politics and Fragile Economy, released this past June from Brookings Institution Press, which will be available for purchase starting at 5pm. We’re calling the event, appropriately, “The Metropolitan Revolution: Philadelphia as a Model for the Nation.” Because we have hometown pride like that.

Please register for the event and join the conversation.

“Cities and metros have realized that the Federal government is an unreliable partner and they understand that they themselves have power,” says Jennifer Bradley on PBS NewsHour with Bruce Katz.
