Someone tell the media: It turns Detroit does have grocery stores. Lots of them, in fact. In a long, photo-filled, myth-debunking post at Urbanophile, James Griffioen writes that, “with a diversity of options ranging from the dismal to the sublime, Detroit may be one of the most interesting places in America to shop for food.” The Urbanophile

Earlier this week, Andrés Duany and his firm Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company presented their vision for a rebuilt Port-au-Prince, Haiti, which called for dense urban “superblocks” that could be built gradually, be self-sustaining and hopefully lure back members of the middle and upper classes. Fast Company

“Let’s play.” Urban Omnibus has a video interview with developer, Carl Skelton, who describes his open-source “game” Betaville, which he describes as “a massively participatory online platform for proposing, debating and developing alterations to the built environment on a spectrum running from public art through urban design and development and redevelopment.” Urban Omnibus

Joe Peach of This Big City reports on the progress of Europe’s soon-to-be-tallest skyscraper, South London’s “Shard.” The Big City
