The Department of Housing and Urban Development — whose secretary, Shaun Donovan, we profiled in Issue 29 — is running a campaign to promote better understanding of its role in cities — and to promote its own understanding of what citizens want and need. With “Why do you believe in HUD?” they’re asking citizens to support their efforts — ranging from rental assistance to housing development to foreclosure help — by explaining how HUD has helped them. From their office:

Earlier this month, Secretary Donovan started a conversation with HUD employees about why they believe in the work they do and why they are passionate about HUD’s mission. Hundreds of HUD employees have already shared why they believe in HUD, including Deputy Secretary Ron Sims who shared his reasons in a YouTube video message. In the video, Deputy Secretary Sims notes that he believes in HUD because “HUD believes in ‘us’ – in the humanity of all of us, in decency for all of us, in the equal treatment of all of us, and in the communities that we all live in – our neighborhoods, our parks, our housing, and our community centers.”

Now, HUD wants to hear from us – stakeholders, partners, and the people whose lives are made better by HUD programs. Why do you believe in HUD?

Submit your responses by posting a 60 second YouTube video response to the Deputy Secretary’s video message or emailing directly to ibelieve@hud.gov. Don’t forget to include a description about yourself and your organization and how HUD programs affect you and the people for whom you make a difference. Entries must be submitted by midnight on April 25th.
