For our forthcoming 30th issue — our largest ever — we’re doing a special section entirely focused on technology and cities. We’ll look at how new media and technology tools can enhance urban life, foster a culture of open government, increase civic engagement and make services more efficient. We want to know what apps and tech tools you use or admire as city-dwellers, and we’d like to hear your nominations for the best FREE apps and tech tools out there. We’re looking for ideas in four categories:
- Governance: Tools and apps that make government more efficient and open, and facilitate government/citizen interaction – Civic engagement: Tools and apps that help rally volunteers, spread ideas and news and increase participation – Getting around: Tools and apps that help transit users, walkers, bikers and drivers move around town – Urban Planning: Tools and apps for planners – professional and amateur
If your tech tool of choice doesn’t fit neatly into one of these categories, don’t worry about it; just send it along. same goes for tools that are locally oriented; other cities can learn from great examples of local tech. Share your thoughts in the comments below, via Twitter, on our Facebook page or via email to julia[at]americancity.org.
Thanks for sharing, and look for Issue 30, available June 1, to see the results!
