Next American City seeks a Special Projects Manager. The Manager will assist the Executive Director on numerous fronts:

  • Spearheading an intensive audience and donor development campaign through social media, MailChimp and other means;
  • Developing and maintaining sponsorship and advertising relationships;
  • Overseeing Storefront for Urban Innovation events and exhibits;
  • Managing logistics for the annual Vanguard conference (October 2012).

Candidates must be highly self-motivated and capable of managing others, yet also very comfortable with administrative tasks. Experience managing events and building audiences are essential. The Special Projects Manager will have firm goals in terms of subscribers and sponsorship revenue; if able to surpass these goals, we imagine the position will become permanent.

The contract position pays $18/hour for an estimated 25 hours per week. Candidates living in Philadelphia will be preferred, but depending on a candidate’s expertise there may be opportunities to work remotely on aspects other than Storefront events.

Applicants should email a cover letter and resume to InfoATamericancity.org and must use the subject line: Special Projects Manager. The position is open now and so long as this advertisement is on americancity.org/about, it is still available. No calls.

Fall 2012 Internship

Next American City is seeking Editorial Interns who are available to start working a minimum of 12 hours per week in September 2012. Internships are unpaid, but school credit can be arranged.

Duties include: Writing, editing, fact-checking, research, blogging, social media, reader engagement and general administrative tasks as required. Required skills: excellent oral and written communication; basic research skills; experience in blogging software and Creative Suite not necessary but helpful. Varied interests encouraged, though specific interests in news, urban issues, redevelopment, and city planning strongly preferred.

Please send a resume and cover letter to: Ariella Cohen, Executive Editor, AriellaATamericancity.org with “Internship” in the subject line. No calls.
