Help Next City Set a Nonprofit Newsroom Record

Newsrooms large and small are increasingly relying on reader donations to support their journalism. Next City is no different. Since the start of 2015, more than 3,000 people have donated to Next City and we couldn’t be more grateful. Your donations mean that we can keep publishing stories that inspire social, economic and environmental change in cities around the world.

Today, we’re proud to announce that Next City was selected to participate in News Match, a national campaign to encourage grassroots support for nonprofit news organizations.

“We want 2017 to be a record-setting year for donations to news to ensure that innovative, nonprofit newsrooms have the resources they need to deliver high-quality reporting to the communities they serve,” said Josh Stearns, associate director for the Public Square program at Democracy Fund.

Thanks to News Match, donations made to Next City will be matched for the rest of the year. This is a rare opportunity for you to double your impact, so we’re asking you to dig deep to support our independent journalism for stronger cities. Donations will be matched up to $1,000.

“The nonprofit, independent news that Next City publishes is vital to creating healthy, sustainable and equitable urban communities. News Match is a great opportunity to have a large impact on Next City’s journalism for stronger cities. Now would be the perfect time to give for the first time or double what you gave last year,” said Allison Arieff, editorial director at SPUR and Next City board member.

Monthly recurring donations are eligible, too. If you already made a recurring donation or start one now, your automatic donations for the rest of the year will all be matched.

Whether you can donate or not, please ask your friends and colleagues to support us on social media. Here’s a sample tweet: “Join me in supporting Next City’s independent journalism for stronger cities. #NewsMatch will double your donation. https://nextcity.org/membership”

The best way to support Next City is online, but you can also send checks made out to Next City to 1500 JFK Boulevard, #1220, Philadelphia PA 19102 or call (302) 409-0631‬. U.S. donations are tax-deductible. Donations made through a family foundation or a donor advised fund will also be matched.

Thanks to the Democracy Fund, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for supporting News Match.
