Join Next City for another event in our online seminar series, this time with guest presenter Sara Mokuria, Next City Vanguard and co-founder of Mothers Against Police Brutality, on Wednesday, May 8 at 1 p.m. eastern time.

What do rising housing prices, poverty, access to health care and racism have to do with policing? Join this webinar with the co-founder of Mothers Against Police Brutality, Sara Mokuria, to discuss the role policing plays in our communities. We will define policing, examine the timeline and history of police in the United States, discuss how to safely interrupt instances of police harassment/brutality and crisis response, and consider policy interventions. We will conclude with an exploration of alternatives for dealing with societal problems and discuss how we can design communities that meet human needs, mitigate harm and promote justice.

Mokuria is a Next City Vanguard who works as the Associate Director for Leadership Initiatives with the Institute for Urban Policy Research at the University of Texas at Dallas. She brings high-level experience in project management, program design and community engagement, combined with lifelong passions for justice, equity, arts and culture.
