“Portraits of Brewerytown” Opening Reception

Join Next City and photographer Tieshka Smith for the opening reception of "Portraits of Brewerytown," an exhibition of neighborhood-based portraiture, complemented by narrative and mapping, that provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of people — residents young and old, community leaders and business owners — who live and work in the north Philadelphia neighborhood of Brewerytown.

Thursday, January 10, 2013 – Wednesday, December 31, 1969

5:30pm - 9:00pm

Opening on January 11, 2013 at the Storefront for Urban Innovation, “Portraits of Brewerytown” provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of people — residents young and old, community leaders and business owners — who live and work in the north Philadelphia neighborhood of Brewerytown. As cities across the nation negotiate the rising tides of urban renewal, Philadelphia, a city defined by its neighborhoods, faces a unique challenge. This exhibition of neighborhood-based portraiture by photographer Tieshka Smith reveals how one community is navigating this transformation.

Join us for an opening reception with the artist on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 5:30 – 9 p.m. at the Storefront for Urban Innovation. The exhibition is free and open to the public from January 11 – February 16, 2013 during Storefront hours: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Location

The Storefront for Urban Innovation
2711 W. Girard Avenue
Philadelphia, PA
