SLIDESHOW: The Entrepreneurs of Newark and Beyond

As you may remember reading, this week’s Forefront had journalist Tanveer Ali writing about the unprecedented number of resources now available to entrepreneurs, particularly those in struggling or recovering urban areas, who seek to launch start-up businesses — and thus, the philosophy goes, help spur economic development.

Focusing on neighborhoods such as Harlem, Chicago’s Lower West Side and Halsey Street, Newark, N.J.‘s once-grand commercial corridor, Ali examines the approaches taken by non-profits, venture capitalists and local politicians alike to get business owners to open up shop in the often-pockmarked streets of their respective cities.

Meanwhile, NAC contributor Adi Talwar took so many stellar photos on assignment in both Newark and New York City, we though it was worth a separate showing. In the slideshow below, find six extra pictures depicting a few of the businesses and business owners profiled in Ali’s reporting.
