Durban, South Africa. Boulder, Colorado. Porto Alegre, Brazil. On December 3, 2013, these and 29 other cities became the first selections in The Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities Challenge. Today, the second round of that challenge opens — applications are now available on the website. By the end of this year, another 33 cities will have been accepted to the initiative.
“We’ve already seen the co-benefits of resilience begin to flourish in our partner-cities — what we call the “resilience dividend.” We look forward to inviting more cities to work with us and join the incredible global movement to build urban resilience,” wrote Rockefeller Foundation President Judith Rodin in an emailed announcement. “Because while we cannot predict or prevent every disruption or disaster, together we can mitigate the damage and the toll they take on economies, ecosystems, and, most importantly, people — and ensure our urban places remain centers for innovation and opportunity for the future.”
Anyone interested in getting their city involved can apply here.
