How Forefront Works
Forefront delivers high-quality journalism in an entirely new way. New stories are published online once a week, every Monday morning. You can subscribe or purchase individual stories, but note that it’s most cost-effective to subscribe on a yearly basis. Once a month, sponsors will make Forefront content free for everyone to read.
Subscribe
Subscribe and get access to all Forefront has to offer: A new, long-form story about cities every single week, delivered to your inbox. A year-long, recurring subscription costs just $20. With a subscription, you get seamless access to all Forefront reporting, infographics, photography, illustration and multimedia as soon as it’s available. Plus you get access to subscriber-only events and discounts.
Buy single stories
Not a subscriber yet? Forefront stories are available for individual purchase for just $1.99. With each purchase you get access to that story’s great reporting, infographics, stunning photography and illustration. Read it online, download it or save it for later.
Sponsored Content
We occasionally ask sponsors to subsidize the cost of an article so that everyone has free access to Forefront that week. It’s a win-win: Sponsors get to advertise their product or service to everyone who visits our site, while readers get to experience Forefront for free. Out of 50 stories a year, fewer than a dozen will be sponsored. For more information on sponsorship, please see the Advertise page.
Read Anywhere
Forefront was developed to adapt to any digital device. Read articles on your computer’s desktop browser, smartphone, iPad, Kindle or other e-reader. Download stories in PDF to experience the stories in a book-like format or print out. Or save them through Instapaper to read when you’re not online.
Frequently Asked Questions
I bought a subscription but I can’t login. Help!
In order to login, go to the top right corner and click Login. If there’s a button that says My Account instead, then you’re already logged in.
I want to subscribe for a year, but don’t want it to autorenew. What should I do?
If you go to the “My Account” area (top right corner of the home page), you can view your upcoming invoices. If you don’t want to be charged again in a year, you can cancel your subscription. Otherwise, recurring subscriptions ensure that you won’t miss a story.
I’m a subscriber but I don’t get the weekly story delivered to my inbox — what happened?
The story is delivered to your inbox via our weekly e-newsletter. Check your inbox to make sure our e-newsletter is not going to your spam folder. The e-newsletter comes from the email address newsletter@nextcity.org and is sent by Next City.
I’m a subscriber to your e-newsletter but I can’t access a story. Why?
You may be subscribed to our e-newsletter, but you haven’t paid for a subscription to Forefront. In order to access all the content, please subscribe.
I subscribed to Forefront, then canceled my subscription. Why can’t I access old Forefront stories?
After your subscription is canceled or expires, you will no longer be able to access Forefront content online. If you want to save stories that you have read or purchased, make sure to download the files to your computer or e-reader.
