The Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence is now accepting applications for its 2011 award. The award celebrates the creation of great urban places that are well-designed; make demonstrable and significant contributions to the social, environmental and economic conditions of their community; and illustrate the interplay of process, place and values in generating the places where we most enjoy living, working and playing together. Over the course of the RBA’s 24-year history, it has recognized a diverse range of architecture, landscape, urban design, planning, historic preservation and community development projects. For a complete list of past RBA winners, visit here.

The Rudy Bruner Award is distinguished by its broad eligibility criteria, its detailed on-site evaluations and case studies of each finalist, and its multi-disciplinary Selection Committee of urban experts from across the country. This year’s Selection Committee includes:

Honorable Jay Williams, Mayor, Youngstown OH
Randy Gragg, Editor-in-Chief, Portland Monthly, Portland OR
Dan Pitera, Executive Director, Detroit Collaborative Design Center, Detroit MI
Renata Simril, Senior Vice President, Forest City Development West Coast, Los Angeles CA
Edward K. Uhlir, Executive Director, Millennium Park, Inc., and President, Uhlir Consulting LLC, Chicago IL
Jess Zimbabwe, Executive Director, Daniel Rose Center for Public Leadership in Land Use, Urban Land Institute, Washington DC

The award is open to built projects in the 48 contiguous United States located in any incorporated city, town, or village; a neighborhood within a city; or an officially recognized region made up of two or more cities. Any person who has been involved in the planning, development or operation of a project may apply. For more information, visit here. Applications are due December 13, 2010.
